This song is very significant to me. It was the beginnings of God tugging at my lonely heart, speaking love into my broken places. He called out to me and said "I love you! You are safe with me. I won't hurt you." These are precious, precious truths.
How precious! How relevant to the struggle of sexual sin. It feels enslaving. But we are no longer slaves! We are children of God! Fear not the shame of guilt! Be free sister.
Worship is more than singing, but musical praise is a special gift. When our eyes are downcast on our sin and shame, worship lifts our sights to Heaven and allows us to meditate on His goodness, His love, His presence, His truth and His victory over sin. I believe worship is vital to recovering from habitual sin and shame, because it affirms our worth and salvation, and facilitates a space to listen for God's voice without the distraction of daily life and stress. Come to Him in pain and anxiety, in eager hope, celebration, grief or confusion. He hears it all, and He is beautiful.
